Doris Marlene (Stephenson) Barnett | obituary


Doris Marlene (Stephenson) Barnett, 90, died of this life on Monday, January 17, in Weatherford, Texas. She was the daughter of JB and Ruth Stephenson and was born on June 26, 1931 in Dallas. She married Hobart Barnett in September 1949 after meeting him at Lindale Church of Christ in Houston. She loved children and rejoiced when, after 10 years of marriage, her son Kevin was born and 5 years later her daughter Melissa. She adored her children and her husband. Later, she worked as a credit agency agent, hospital receptionist, nurse’s aide, and nurse, the latter showcasing her exceptional talents. The children she cared for quickly developed language and life skills under her tutelage. She then lived in Irving, Alvarado, Cleburne, Azle and Denton in order to be near her precious children and grandchildren. She was always a member of the local Church of Christ and loved the Lord GOD all her life. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting items for her friends and family. She was a member of the singing group Sweet Adelines barbershop for many years. All his efforts were based on his desire to please GOD. She was predeceased by her parents, JB and Ruth Stephenson, husband Hobart Barnett, daughter Melissa Watson, brother-in-law Phillip Anderson, sister Marjorie Anderson and sister-in-law Lanelle Statler. She is survived by her sister Mary Anne Ray of Abilene, her sister-in-law Wilma Kimberlin, her beloved son Kevin and his wife Anita, her grandchildren Matthew, Chelsea, Jennifer, Lauren, Traci, the twins Logan and Zachary, 5 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held February 4, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Highland Church of Christ, S. 5th and Highland, Abilene with later events in the DFW area and Houston Veterans Cemetery where she will be buried with her husband. .
