Molino Church daycare worker faces child abuse charge for allegedly biting child :

A church worker daycare center has been charged with child abuse after allegedly biting a child.

Haley Nicole Gunn, 30, of Century, was incarcerated in the Escambia County Jail for third-degree child abuse without grievous bodily harm or a misdemeanor battery. She was released from jail on $6,000 bond.

According to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, Gunn bit a child in his care Tuesday at the CrossFaith Church daycare on Highway 29 in Molino.

ECSO said security video shows the young victim biting another child. Gunn went to the child, grabbed her left arm and bit her, according to an arrest report. The video shows Gunn then checks on the other child before picking up the victim and looking at his arm, the report continues.

Gunn said the child had bitten other children twice. She told MPs the parents gave her permission to physically discipline the child by hitting her on the hands or thigh, but the child’s guardian denied that was true.

The child had a visible bite mark with bruising, the report said.

The tutor told deputies that Gunn apologized, but was fired from her job.

Many of Gunn’s statements to law enforcement were redacted from a report obtained from the state’s attorney’s office.

The Florida Department of Children and Families is also investigating.
